Conversation about the exhibition and publication Many Colored Objects Placed Side by Side. Works from the Collection of Annick and Anton Herbert, programme with Enrico Lunghi, Yves Gevaert and Laura Hanssens.
The talk by Eva Badura-Triska offered an introduction to Heimo Zobernig’s oeuvre within the framework of the exhibition Distance Extended / 1979 – 1997. Part II. It has also set his work in relation to that of fellow Austrian artist Franz West (1947 – 2012), who together with Zobernig became one of the central figures within the Viennese art scene. Even though the artists created very distinct oeuvres and despite their age difference, their approach is akin in many ways and the two have collaborated on various occasions.
In the context of the exhibition Distance Extended / 1979 – 1997. Part I Herbert Foundation invited Didier Vermeiren to realise a presentation with his own work on the ground floor of the first room in the exhibition space. This conversation explores the unique trajectory of Vermeiren’s work and examines the nine works that form part of the presentation at Herbert Foundation.
In this talk, art historian Angela Bartholomew considers how Buren’s two-part work Le Décor et son Double in the context of Chambres d’amis performed a critique of the canonical exhibition by making it clear that the sites of installation – private spaces – were not independent of the museum, but were being strategically occupied by it.
On the occasion of the release of the publication 1974. International Avant-Garde Art at the Palais des Beaux-Arts, Joris D’hooghe talks with Yves Gevaert about the exhibition Carl Andre / Marcel Broodthaers / Daniel Buren / Victor Burgin / Gilbert & George / On Kawara / Richard Long / Gerhard Richter which he organised in 1974 at the Brussels Centre for Fine Arts.
