Herbert Foundation kindly invites you on Sunday, January 22, 2017 at 2 p.m for a Talk by Erik Verhagen on the work of Jan Dibbets.
The Dutch artist Jan Dibbets (°1941) is one of the leading artists for integrating the medium of photography in the visual arts since the early 1960s. Moreover, in 1969, he was at the root of the exhibition When Attitudes Become Form in Bern and he is considered an emblematic figure in the international art world since the 1960s.
At the beginning of the lecture Erik Verhagen’s focus will lie on the early years of the work of Dibbets, and from there on he will be making the link to his recent work.
Erik Verhagen is an independent art critic and Assistant professor “Contemporary Art” at the University of Valenciennes (France). He is the author of numerous essays on art from the 1960s on and composed a Dibbets exhibition in 2010 at the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris. In 2007 he published the voluminous publication ‘Jan Dibbets. The Photographic Work. 1967 – 2007 ‘.
Practical details
The lecture lasts 90 minutes and will be held in French. The entrance fee is 14 euros (8 euros for students) and should be paid in cash at the reception. Please reserve in advance by sending an e-mail to reservation@herbertfoundation.org
